KCI EC design tool for jackets and topsides is developed in-house and is fully compliant with the code and used FEM software like SACS.
Eurocode compliance checks are becoming an increasingly important requirement in European offshore jacket design. The challenge that the market currently faces is that no single stand-alone tool exists that can check the design against updated Eurocode standards. A common work around is to follow a conservative approach by checking the design for a few selective load cases. In practice, there can be several thousands of load cases that have to be analysed for each different scenario such as load-out, transport, lift, on-bottom, in-place, etc.
Here at KCI, we have in-house tooling capabilities that can not only perform a Eurocode check of the design but also propose necessary modifications and/or optimizations that will lead to a cost-effective Jacket design. The tool integrates within the existing workflow of standard design but allows detailed checks at each step from concept to detailed design of the offshore Jacket.
KCI has developed the in-house software tool that closes that gap within the engineer’s existing workflow and performs Eurocode-compliant design and verification directly on the SACS structural analysis model — member capacities, joint capacities, and the associated compliance documentation — with the level of transparency and traceability that demanding clients and certifying bodies expect.
The result is that Eurocode verifications no longer sit outside the analysis workflow. Designs can be sized, checked, iterated, and documented to Eurocode in the same environment where the structural engineer is already working. Engineering hours are freed for the work that genuinely matters — design decisions, optimisations, and client conversations — while code compliance is handled consistently, transparently, and at speed.
Although the tool is built for KCI’s in-house design works, it can be made available to our clients and other engineering firms.
